Millennium Institute of Oceanography seeks engineer
The Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) extends the deadline to apply for the position of Engineer for Development and Innovation in Oceanographic and Geoscience Instrumentation.
The selected candidate will be responsible for driving the design, development, integration, implementation, and continuous improvement of technologies and scientific instruments used in oceanographic campaigns, geophysical and geological studies, and deep-sea monitoring activities. The position aims to strengthen the Institute's technological capabilities by promoting innovative solutions for ocean and Earth system observation.
Job Objective
Develop, adapt, integrate and optimize IMO oceanographic and geoscience instruments, contributing to the design of new technological solutions for interdisciplinary scientific research.
Main functions
Develop and integrate sensors, data acquisition systems, instrumentation platforms, and telemetry solutions.
Adapt and improve existing scientific equipment.
Implement prototypes and technological solutions for new observation needs.
Prepare technical documentation of the developments carried out.
Support the technical preparation of oceanographic campaigns, the operation and validation of scientific equipment in the laboratory, field and vessels.
Support fault diagnosis, preventive and corrective maintenance, calibrations and technical management of equipment.
The position involves close collaboration with researchers, students, and technical teams to identify scientific requirements, translate them into instrumental solutions, and contribute to the Institute's technological innovation.
Required profile
Training in Civil Engineering, Execution Engineering or related fields is required, preferably in areas such as electronics, mechanics, electricity, instrumentation, digital systems, automation, telemetry, robotics, oceanography or related areas.
Experience in the design, development, integration or adaptation of scientific instrumentation applied to oceanography, geophysics, geology, environmental monitoring or related areas will be valued.
Knowledge of sensors, embedded systems, data acquisition, communications, programming, automation, prototyping, applied electronics, and operation of scientific equipment in the field will also be highly valued.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to solve complex technical problems, propose innovative solutions, work in dynamic environments, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. Proactivity, autonomy, organization, a results-oriented approach, and a willingness to participate in scientific campaigns and field activities are expected.
Job conditions
The position involves a full-time equivalent work schedule, in person, with participation in field campaigns according to the Institute's requirements.
The remuneration will start at $1,800,000 gross per month, depending on experience.
