The Millennium Institute of Oceanography (IMO) was one of the institutions invited to participate in Heritage Day 2026 on May 30, organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, a day that brought together more than 9,000 people around science, knowledge and its impact on society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the concept of \"Chile as a natural laboratory,\" the event aimed to highlight the unique conditions our country possesses for conducting cutting-edge research in areas such as astronomy, biodiversity, climate, and the oceans. In this context, the IMO shared with attendees some of the research it is conducting to understand deep-ocean ecosystems, the geophysical dynamics of the seabed in the generation of earthquakes and tsunamis, and their relevance to human well-being and the future of our country and our planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event brought scientific knowledge closer to audiences of all ages and created spaces for dialogue between the public, researchers, and institutions linked to science and innovation. Representatives from the Institute also had the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Science and other authorities, sharing the work that the IMO has carried out for over a decade and its contribution to positioning Chilean oceanographic research internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation in these types of initiatives is fundamental to strengthening the link between science and society, promoting a greater appreciation of knowledge as cultural heritage and a key tool to face the challenges of the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
